BREAKFAST / LUNCH
The route from Chiang Mai to Pai is a winding road of natural beauty, and this is precisely how we’ll be starting our day after a nice, energizing breakfast. Along the way, we’ll also make sure to take a break and stop to appreciate the lively Mai Malai Market as well as the stunning Pong Deuid Hot Springs.
We’ll arrive at Pai shortly after and take some time to relax and settle down with the crisp mountain air, the endless rolling hills, and the overall tranquil natural setting that encapsulates Pai.
Pai is essentially a small town filled with an assortment of ethnic groups, religious beliefs, and spoken languages — everything is intertwined here to create a distinctive set of traditions and values in comparison to the rest of Thailand.
Before closing out the day by checking in at your hotel, we’ll take you around Pai and show you three different locations: the revered Lanna-style Nam Hu Temple, the beautiful Chinese Kuomintang Village, and the impressively tradition-filled Yunnanese Chinese village of Ban Santichon. What’s most interesting to see here is how strictly these Chinese traditions have been upheld, to include language, attire, and in what they eat.
We’ll conclude the day by checking in at the Bella Villa and spending the night there to relax into the following day.
Our second day of exploration begins with a hearty breakfast. We’ll then transport you via air-conditioned van to the Lod Cave, one of the most captivating yet easy sites to visit. This cave is beneath the Tham Nam Lod Nature and Wildlife Research Center. The stunning part of this Center is that there is a stream running through it (as the name in Thai would suggest), and it runs up circularly for almost 500 meters.
What you’ll find in this cave are 3 separate caves to explore: Sao Hin Cave, Tukta Cave, and Pi Man Cave. And, the only way to visit these caves is to board a raft to take you through the cave for approximately 1,600 meters. It is just as stunning and enveloping as you can imagine, if not more.
Afterward, we’ll transport you to Mae Hong Song, stopping at the Lisu and Lahu hill tribe villages along the way. This is where we’ll come to a brief repose and have lunch at a local Thai restaurant.
The food isn’t the only relaxing aspect of the day, as we’ll be further reducing your stress by taking you to Plu Klone and treating you with a mud spa facial treatment.
Lastly, we’ll end the day with three temple visits that reside within the town of Mae Hong Son and its outskirts: Wat Chong Klang, Wat Chong Kam, and Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mu — each and every one of them unique in their own way.
The day concludes as we take you to your resort, the Imperial at Mae Hong Son.
BREAKFAST / LUNCH
Our third day begins after an energizing breakfast, where we’ll put you aboard a boat and have you cross the incredible Pai River so that you can experience the world-renowned Karen Village in the area. This is where you’ll see women sporting heavy brass rings around their necks to extend them as much as possible. You’ll have a chance to explore the historical reasoning for this while discovering the ins and outs of the village itself. And, each additional tourist and visit that this community experience enhances the well-being of its residents.
Please note: We have performed a meticulous review of the conditions in this Karen Village and deem it to comply with our strict principles regarding responsible and non-exploitative travel.
After this enthralling cultural experience, we’ll transport you to Mae La Noi so that you can experience Kaew Komol Cave — a 30-meter vertical chamber that can only be entered via a 120-meter set of stairs that has been specifically kept small to preserve the authenticity of the beautiful walls. Needless to say, this cave is regarded as the most distinctive cave in all of Thailand. In fact, comparable caves only really exist in Australia and China (aside from the one you’ll be witnessing here).
Lastly, we’ll drive you to the Mae Sariang district where you’ll have a chance to discover the pristine natural environment that encapsulates everything. Relax in this lovely and inviting area while laying down in your hotel or simply traversing the area. The night will conclude at your hotel, the Riverhouse.
BREAKFAST / LUNCH
Our final day will begin shortly after your breakfast at the hotel, with a brief Mae Sariang Museum and Temple visit.
Following that, we’ll stop at a local Thai restaurant for lunch before transporting you back to Chiang Mai. En route, we’ll stop at the beautiful Ob Luang National Park, a rest stop that gives you the opportunity to view the stunning natural vistas teeming with teakwood trees, precipitous gorges, and gorgeous mountain ranges.
We’ll drop you off back in Chiang Mai so that you can enjoy this lively city.
